Revell 05406 Fregate 'USS United States'

The USS United States was an American sailing frigate of the 18th and 19th centuries. The unit was launched in May 1797 and entered service a year later. The unit was 53 meters long and 13.3 meters wide. Full displacement did not exceed 1500 tons, and the crew consisted of about 340 people. USS United States was able to sail at a maximum speed of 13 knots. It was armed with: 24 42-pounder guns and 32 24-pounder guns.

The USS United States was the first ship designed and launched for the US Navy in her history. The frigate was created by the decision of Congress in 1794 related to the expansion of the navy. The new unit was built at the Philadelphia shipyard. Already in the lpc 1798 it was sent to the Caribbean region, where it served until the next year. In 1799 she made a cruise to France, and in 1801 - which may be surprising - she was temporarily withdrawn from service to return to her in 1809. The USS United States successfully took part in the British-American War of 1812, in which it brought the frigate HMS Macedonian into surrender. In the period 1824-1827, the unit operated mainly in the Pacific. During the Civil War (1861-1865), the unit was first captured by the Confederates, but later re-entered into the US Navy. In 1865, a decision was made to dismantle the unit.
