The Type 59 gun is a Chinese 130mm towed gun from the post-war period. In the basic version (Type 59), the weight of the gun is approx. 8,450 kilograms, with the length of the barrel in the marching position of approx. 11.7 meters. The maximum range of the weapon (Type 59) is about 27,500 m. The rate of fire of the weapon, with a well-trained crew, reaches 5-8 shots per minute.
The Type 59 gun is a license, Chinese version of the Soviet M-46 wz.1954 gun. It was developed to conduct counter-battery fire. Despite the fact that the caliber of the cannon suggested it was based on a naval cannon, the M-46 cannon was developed independently. In the Soviet Army, the new gun replaced the A-19 guns model 1931/1937. Initially, the PRC produced faithful, license copies of the M-46 marked as the Type 59 gun. However, the modernized version (Type 59-1) entered production relatively quickly, with a different front and its weight was reduced to approx. 6.3 tons. The gun was licensed by Egypt (Type 59-1M). Later, a version marked as GM-45 was created, with a 155 mm barrel taken from the WA-021 howitzer, as well as long-range ERFB ammunition with a maximum range of 38,000 meters.
