Pt31 is a series of steam locomotives (steam locomotives) that were produced in the period 1932-1940 at the Fablok plant in Chrzanów. The length of a single locomotive (with the tender) was 23.96 meters, and the service weight - 106.2 tons. The diameter of the driving wheels was 1,850 mm, and the locomotive had 1D1 axles, a total of 110 locomotives of this type were built.
The Pt31 steam locomotives were designed by Polish engineer (later professor) Kazimierz Zembrzuski - one of the best Polish experts in the field of railways after 1945. The locomotives were dedicated to hauling heavy trains (often fast trains) weighing up to 650 tons. Interestingly, after the September defeat in 1939, the Germans did not stop the production of this type of locomotive, but ordered the production of 12 more - for their own use. During World War II, Pt31 locomotives were intensively used, but some of them luckily survived the war. They served in the Polish State Railways until 1980. They also served as the basis for the development of the Pt47 steam locomotive.
