Ty51 is a series of Polish cargo steam locomotives (steam locomotives), which were produced in the period 1953-1958. Production took place in the plants of Hipolit Cegielski in Poznań (abbreviated: HCP). The service weight of a single locomotive without tender was 109.9 tons, and its length with tender was 23.025 m. The locomotive had a 1'E axle system. A total of 232 steam locomotives of this type were built.
The Ty51 steam locomotive was created as a result of the experience gained from the operation of the Ty45 and Ty246 locomotives, and its design was clearly based on the latter. It was the first steam locomotive in Poland to have a welded rather than riveted boiler. It also had a stoker, i.e. a mechanical coal feeder. The new locomotive was comparable to the American Ty246, but clearly exceeded the performance of the Ty4 and Ty45. It was the strongest steam locomotive used by PKP, as well as the last one produced by the HCP plant in Poznań for the use of these railway lines. From the very beginning, it was directed to heavy freight rolling stock, and the specific nature of the locomotive allowed it to work for a long time with a considerable load.
