Toyota AB is a Japanese passenger car that was produced from 1936 to 1942 in the city of Koromo, Japan. In total, about 350 copies of this car were made. The AB model was the first mass-produced convertible car in the history of Toyota Motor Corporation. It was based on the AA model, which in turn was based on the prototype A1 model from 1935. Compared to its predecessor, it was very similar and was based on the stylistic assumptions used in the Chrysler DeSoto Airflow car. The body and frame of the car are made entirely of steel. The power unit was a 6-cylinder Toyota Type A 62 HP engine mated with a 3-speed manual gearbox. The same system was also found in the AA model. During World War II, many cars of this type were commandeered by the Japanese armed forces and served as staff cars.
