Modelsvit 72031 Yak-140

The Yakovlev Yak-140 was a Soviet, all-metal, low-wing supersonic fighter prototype with retractable landing gear. The drive was provided by a single Mikulin AM-9D engine . One prototype of the aircraft was made in 1954 but was not flown. They were armed with two 23mm NR-23 cannons.

The Yakovlev Yak-140 aircraft was designed as a light fighter with a possibly high maximum speed. Its target propulsion was to be the Mikulin AM-11 turbojet engine. The machine was also to be armed with 2-3 cannons and capable of firing air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles. Although the Yak-140 successfully passed all the ground tests, its designer was not allowed to start flight tests. This decision was due to the Soviet Ministry of Aviation Industry's favoring of competing Sukhoi and MiG machines. Ultimately, in 1956, the Yak-140 program was completely canceled.
