SS Vilnius was a Polish merchant ship (so-called bulk carrier) from the interwar period, World War II and the post-war period. The launch took place in 1926. The overall length was 84.6 meters and a width of 12.1 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 2,200 tons, and maximum speed - approx. 9 knots. The unit did not have permanent armament. SS Vilnius was built at the Chantiers Naval Francais shipyard in Blainville-sur-Orne, France. For this reason, similarly to, for example, SS Kraków or SS Poznań, he was called "the Polish French". After launching at the French shipyard, the vessel arrived at the port under construction in Gdynia at the beginning of January 1927, becoming the first Polish sea-going vessel to moor in this port. In the years 1927-1939, the unit made cruises mainly in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea basin. During World War II, the escape of a vessel from the ports of Sfax in Tunisia became legendary. In 1949, the vessel became the property of Polska Æegluga Morska, and with the change of the owner, the name also changed - to "Wieluń". The unit remained in service until 1958.
