M-65 is a 130 mm tank gun from the post-war period of Soviet production. The gun was to be used as the main armament of the Object 279 heavy tank, which, however, never entered mass production. The M-65 gun was a rifled gun and the barrel was 60 calibers, or 780 centimeters long. From the very beginning, the gun was designed primarily as an anti-tank weapon (anti-tank for short) and was able to fire APDS missiles, i.e. anti-tank missiles. with a rejected sabotage. A shell of this type fired from this cannon had an initial velocity of 1000 m / s and was able to penetrate an armor plate with a thickness of 450 mm set at an angle of 90 degrees. It is worth adding that the gun used separate loading ammunition, which meant that even with a highly trained crew, its rate of fire did not exceed 6-7 rounds per minute. It also significantly limited the amount of ammunition carried in the tank. In the Object 279, the M-65 gun was stabilized in two planes.
