Nakajima Kotobuki is a Japanese star aircraft engine from the interwar period and World War II. In its basic version, in a dry configuration, it weighed about 350 kilograms. Its length was 102 cm and the diameter was 128 cm. The engine had a capacity of 24.1 liters. The presented power unit was one of the first to be produced on a large scale in the Nakajima plant, and its design was based clearly on the British Bristol Jupiter. In the 1920s and 1930s, the engine was intensively developed and improved, which led to the creation of its subsequent versions, for example: 2-Kai-1 with 585 HP, 2-Kai-3 with 610 HP or 3-Kai with already 710 hp. Over time, it was used to develop the Nakajima Hikari engine. It is worth adding that the presented power unit was installed in various Japanese aircraft, including: Mitsubishi A5M or Ki-18, but also Nakajima A1N2, A2N or E4N.
