AN / AAQ28 Litening is an American-Israeli airborne targeting system designed primarily for air-to-ground operation, developed by Northrop Grumman from the USA and Rafael from Israel. Its basic task is to identify and select targets for the guided aviation weapons and the subsequent guidance of these weapons to selected targets. Work on the system began in 1992, and the system entered the line in the mid-1990s. The AN / AAQ28 Litening is housed in a single overhead container which significantly reduces the overall weight of the system. It is based on a TV camera using CCD technology, an inertial target tracking system, a laser rangefinder, a laser target marker and infrared observation systems. In 1999, the Listening II set was introduced into production, which has, among others: the ability to guide weapons in the air-to-air mode, and in 2003, the Listening II system with an extended operating range was presented. The AN / AAQ28 Litening sighting system, in various versions, is used by many countries, including Brazil, Romania, Germany, Great Britain and the USA. It can work with many planes, for example F-16 Fighting Falcon, F / A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, A-10 Thunderbolt II, but also PANAVIA Tornado or Eurofighter Typhoon.
