Superjumbo Airbusa A380, zaprojektowany w ścisłej współpracy z głównymi liniami lotniczymi, lotniskami i władzami lotniczymi, jest najbardziej zaawansowanym, przestronnym oraz wydajnym samolotem pasażerskim, jaki kiedykolwiek został stworzony. A380 został oficjalnie udostępniony 19 grudnia 2000 r. Wejdzie do eksploatacji na początku roku 2006, wyznaczając całkowicie nowe standardy w podróży lotniczej.
A380 będzie największym produkowanym na świecie samolotem pasażerskim. Rozmiary hali produkcyjnej, w której będzie wytwarzany pobiły światowe rekordy. Pół kilometra długości, 250 metrów szerokości oraz 46 metrów wysokości - w tym ponad 32 tysiące ton stali - 4 razy więcej niż wieża Eiffla - do tego ćwierć miliona metrów sześciennych betonu.
Sam samolot liczyć będzie 73 metry długości i mieścić będzie ok. 555 pasażerów. Jego nośność wynosi 560 ton startowych.
Obecnie już 129 firm złożyło zamówienia na nowy samolot, m.in: Air France, Emirates, Federal Express, ILFC, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines oraz Virgin Atlantic Airways.
