The Banska Gate is the only one of the three medieval Gryfino gates that have survived to this day. It constituted an important element of the city's fortifications in the late Middle Ages, and work on it probably began at the end of the 13th century. Its oldest preserved element, i.e. its lower part from the foundations to the half of its present height, dates back to around 1300. Interestingly, the gate received a very solid foundation, which made it difficult to undermine any excavations and greatly influenced its stability. In the late Middle Ages, the gate did not have a roof and was topped only with battlements. In the 15th century, the gate was raised by about 3.5 meters, and as a building material, not field stone, but bricks was used. In the Renaissance era, a round tower with a conical roof was built on the medieval fortifications, which greatly improved the observation range of the city's defenders. Before this reconstruction, the load-bearing walls of the building were adequately strengthened. Luckily the gate survived during World War II, although almost all the buildings around it were destroyed. In the 1970s it was renovated.
The models are digitally printed - some adhesives can dissolve the ink!
