Nationality markings (hereinafter: insignia) on Belgian Air Force planes (nid. Belgische Luchtmacht, fr. Force aerienne belge ) began to be used almost from the very beginning in 1909. Incidentally, it can be mentioned that the Belgian Air Force is considered to be one of the oldest in the world. The air force very quickly adopted as its insignia a roundelle composed of a red and yellow circle and a black circle in the center. The roundelles were painted on the wings and the fuselage of the machines. On the other hand, the vertical fins (called fin flash) were painted in three vertical stripes: black, yellow and red. Of course, the colors referred to the colors of the national flag of Belgium. Such insignia (roundelle and fin flash) were used continuously from the period of World War I (1914-1918), through the next world war, up to the present day. It is worth adding that the Belgian naval aviation used roundelle in national colors with a white anchor.
