The Bergepanzer 38 (t) (Sd.Kfz.136) was a German technical support and evacuation tank from the Second World War. The vehicle was powered by a single engine Praga AC with 150 HP. It was armed with a single 7.92 mm MG34 or MG42 machine gun.
In the early stages During World War II, the German armed forces used half-track tractors to evacuate tanks damaged during the fighting. However, in the course of the war, as a result of efforts to standardize the vehicles used, specially adapted tanks, such as the Bergepanzer 38 (t), were used in this role. The production of these vehicles lasted from May 1944 to April 1945 at the BMM factory in Prague. About 180 examples of this evacuation tank were created in its course. The new engineering vehicle was based on the Jagdpanzer 38 (t) Hetzer tank destroyer. Initially, the technical equipment of the Sd.Kfz.136 vehicles was very poor, but from the beginning of 1945, a blade was mounted on them, as well as a winch inside the vehicle, which made it a very useful and independent evacuation vehicle. Not surprisingly, the Sd.Kfz.136 vehicles were primarily assigned to units equipped with Hetzer tank destroyers.
