Airfix 05002 Bristol MK32 Superfreighter

The Bristol Type 170 Superfreighter was a British transport and passenger aircraft in the high-wing configuration. The drive was provided by two Bristol Hercules 734 engines with 1980 hp each. The prototype flight took place in 1953. In the same year, the machine entered mass production.

The Bristol Type 170 Superfreighter was created as an enlarged version of the Bristol Freighter. From its predecessor, it drew many elements and design solutions - first of all, it used the same engines. The main change consisted in extending the fuselage (especially the nose of the aircraft) and strengthening the structure. This made it possible to increase the number of passengers (from 12 to 20) and to take more cargo on board. The machine - like its prototype - had a door to the luggage compartment that opened in the front of the fuselage, which significantly accelerated its loading and unloading. Bristol Type 170 Superfreighters were used by airlines in several countries, including Great Britain, Algeria, Canada and Belgium.
