DISCONTINUED Special Hobby 72044 CAC CA-12 Boomerang

The CAC CA-12 Boomerang is an Australian mixed low wing fighter with a retractable in-flight landing gear from the Second World War. The flight of the prototype took place in 1942, and shortly after that, mass production began, which lasted until 1945. The machine was powered by a 1200hp Pratt and Whitney R-1830 single engine. The deck armament included two 20mm cannons and four machine guns cal. 7.7 mm.

The CAC CA-12 Boomerang was developed in connection with the outbreak of the war in the Pacific, as the basic fighter aircraft for the Australian Air Force, which at the turn of 1941 and 1942 could not count on the supply of enough machines from their powerful allies: Great Britain and the USA. The new fighter was externally similar to the Wirraway CAC training machine, but only externally. Despite the use of some similar components in both aircraft, they were very different from each other. The CAC CA-12 Boomerang was undoubtedly a heavily armed fighter, with great maneuverability and, what is more, good armor. However, it was definitely too slow - its maximum speed was only 490 km / h! During World War II, they were used primarily as attack aircraft.
