The AT-42 was a Soviet prototype tracked artillery tractor from the Second World War. The first prototypes of this vehicle were created in 1940, but the vehicle never entered mass production. The vehicle was powered by a single 500hp V-2 diesel engine and was armed with a single 7.62mm DT machine gun. The AT-42 vehicle was created to some extent from the grassroots initiative of plant No. 183 in Kharkiv. Its design was based on the chassis, suspension and hull of the T-34/76 model 1940 tank. The armor of the tank was also preserved without major changes. However, the AT-42 did not have a turret, and in its rear part a compartment for the service of the gun was located, which could be covered with a tarpaulin, but did not protect the soldiers in this part of the vehicle with armor. The AT-42 was able to pull a gun or vehicles weighing up to 15 tons. However, the outbreak of the German-Soviet war prevented the further development of the structure, and the AT-42 never entered mass production.
