The Do 215 is an export version of the Do 17Z series aircraft, equipped with a more powerful DB 601B-1 V-12 engine with 1100 HP (809 kW). It had better performance than the standard Do 17 with a maximum speed of 470 km / h and an operating altitude of 9,400 m. In 1939, 18 Do 215A-1s were built for export to Sweden, but due to the embargo the transaction was not concluded and the aircraft was put into service Luftwaffe as Do 215B-1 and Do 215B-2. Two planes were sent to the USSR as the Do 215B-3. The production Do 215B-3 was a reconnaissance aircraft, the counterpart of the Do 17Z-3, and the Do 215B-5 Kauz III was a night fighter similar to the Do 17Z-10. A total of 101 Do 215 aircraft were produced.
