Familok (German: Familien-Block) is a residential, multi-family building, in its classic form erected at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The families were built mainly near large industrial plants, as a place of residence, especially for low and medium-level factory workers. In Poland, they occur in the greatest number in Silesia. Familiar houses were always built of brick, had up to 2-3 storeys, and initially did not have a sewage system, which, however, changed over time. A single apartment in a family house was 35-40 m2 and consisted of one room and a kitchen. The toilet was located on the mezzanine and was shared by the residents of the ground or upper floor. It is worth adding that each apartment was assigned a utility room, which was most often used to store coal. It is worth adding that at present many buildings of this type are undergoing renovation and restoration works, e.g. in Bytom or Ruda ¦l±ska.
