French 5th Hussars Regiment (fr. 5e regiment de hussards ) was formally formed in 1783, but was already in operation in 1780, i.e. still in the pre-revolutionary period. It was the last cavalry regiment formed in France before the outbreak of the Revolution. The unit took an active part in the last phase of the US War of Independence (1776-1783), taking part in the victorious Battle of Yorktown in 1781. At the end of 1783, the regiment returned to France, where in 1793 it was given its final name. The regiment took a very active part in the revolutionary wars of France (1792-1799) and during the Napoleonic wars (1799-1815). The regiment gained its first significant combat experience during the Battle of Jemmapes in 1792. The unit also fought at Austerlitz (1805) and - especially - at one (1806), where the regiment showed great mastery of the war craft. It also flashed during the Battle of Eckmühl (1809), and was put into combat shortly thereafter at the Battle of Wagram that same year. In 1812, the 5th Hussars Regiment took part in the Russian campaign, where it suffered huge losses. Despite this, he distinguished himself at the Battle of Hanau in 1813. The uniform of a private regiment in 1808 was made of a white dolman with a black trim and a light blue shack, a uniform jacket (richly braided!) And tight pants with a golden stripe.
