The GAZ-42 was a Soviet truck from the interwar period and World War II. The vehicle had an overall length of 5.34 meters, a width of 2.04 meters, and a wheelbase of 3.34 meters. It reached a maximum speed of 50 km / h. The car could carry a cargo weighing 1,200 kilograms.
The GAZ-42 was developed as a far-reaching modification of the GAZ-AA truck, and design work on it began in the late 1930s. The main changes concerned the use of natural gas as fuel, instead of gasoline, which required the installation of all the necessary equipment on the car, including a gas generator. As all this equipment significantly increased the curb weight of the car, it was decided to simplify and reduce the weight of other elements as much as possible - especially the driver's cabin and the load compartment, which were largely made of wood. Finally, serial production of the GAZ-42 started in 1939 and lasted until 1946. Approximately 33,800 cars of this type were created in its course! The GAZ-42 was widely used during World War II as a transport vehicle or light artillery tractor.
