KwK30 (full description: 2 cm KwK 30 L / 55, and 2 cm Kampfwagenkanone 30 L / 55) is a German tank gun of 20 mm caliber from the interwar period and World War II. The gun entered service in 1935, and the Mauser and Rheinmetall-Borsig plants were responsible for its production. The barrel length of this gun was 55 calibers, or 110 centimeters. The gun was the first tank gun to be used on a large scale in a mass-produced German tank in the 1930s. It became the basis for the development of the 20 mm C / 30 air cannon, which in turn was mounted on Heinkel He-112 aircraft and was successfully used during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The KwK30 gun was also modernized over time to the 2 cm KwK 38 L / 55 standard. The KwK30 cannon fired several types of projectiles. The most frequently used: Panzergranate (PzGr.) 39, later also PzGr. 40, but also Sprenggranate 39 (Sprgr. 39). When firing a PzGr missile. 40 KwK30 cannon could penetrate a 20 mm thick armor plate from a distance of 500 meters. It was the basic armament of the Panzer II tank, as well as selected versions of the armored cars: Sd.Kfz.222, Sd.Kfz.231, Sd.Kfz.232 and the Sd.Kfz.251/17 vehicle.
