Lichtenstein is an on-board flight radar used by the Luftwaffe during World War II. Its first versions appeared in 1942, but its design was developed until the end of the war. It is also assumed that it was the first radar of this type used on a large scale by the Luftwaffe. The Telefunken concern was responsible for the development and production of radars of this type. It is worth adding that there were four versions of this radar, three of which were used on a larger scale: FuG 202 Lichtenstein B / C, FuG 212 Lichtenstein C-1 and FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2. The latter began to be used on a larger scale from the end of 1943. It operated at 90 MHz, which was lower than the previous versions, which made it difficult to interfere with it, but also required the use of larger antennas. This, in turn, increased the aerodynamic drag of the carrier aircraft. It is also worth adding that in 1944, improved versions of the FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2 radar with a reduced minimum range were introduced into service. It is worth adding that the first complete set of this radar fell into the hands of the Allies in July 1944.
