HMS Hesperus (H57) was a British destroyer from the interwar period and World War II. The keel for this unit was laid in 1938, the launch took place in August 1939, and the entry into service with the Royal Navy - in 1940. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 98.5 meters and a width of 10.1 meters. Full displacement reached approximately 1,900 tons, and the maximum speed was approximately 36 knots. The armament at the time of launching consisted of, among other things: three single 120 mm guns, eight 533 mm torpedo tubes and depth charge drop-offs.

HMS Hesperus (H57) was one of the destroyers belonging to the H-class. Generally, the destroyers of this type were modeled on the F-class ships, but had a significantly improved powerplant and other minor design changes. Units of this class were also equipped with an ASDIC. During the course of the war, units of this class were modified. One of the destroyers of this type was just that HMS Hesperus, originally commissioned by Brazil, but due to the outbreak of World War II, almost immediately after the launch, was bought by the Royal Navy. The unit, already under the British flag, underwent combat baptism during the Norwegian campaign (1940), when it was damaged and sent for renovation. After returning to the line, HMS Hesperus was on convoy service. In 1941, the destroyer was dispatched to Gibraltar, but in the same year returned to the Atlantic and was assigned to convoy cover. In 1943, the unit underwent a major reconstruction, becoming an escort destroyer. The ZOP and anti-aircraft armaments were strengthened. After modernization and renovation, HMS Hesperus returned to service in the Atlantic, sinking two German U-boats in the period 1943-1945. The destroyer was decommissioned almost immediately after the end of World War II.
