Ardpol 72-002 LWD - ŻAK 3

LWD Żak was a Polish training and tourist plane in the low wing configuration, with a mixed structure and a fixed landing gear from the post-war period. The plane was flown in 1947, and production was carried out only in 1947-1948. The drive - in the Żak 1 version - was provided by a single Walter Mikron III engine with a capacity of 65 HP.

LWD Żak was developed in the Aviation Experimental Workshop in a team of engineers led by Eng. Tadeusz Sołtyk. From the very beginning, the machine was constructed for the use of Polish flying clubs as an easy-to-use, cheap to produce and easy-to-fly aircraft. As LWD Żak was to be used primarily for basic training, it was decided to use an engine with relatively low maximum power. In the course of production and flight tests, two further development versions were created (apart from the Żak 1 version), which differed only in the engines used: Żak 2 and Żak 3. The last version was Żak 4, which was intended for towing gliders. It was characterized by an open pilot's cabin and a 105 HP engine. LWD Żak planes were operated in flying clubs until 1955.
