The L21A1 RARDEN is a British 30mm automatic cannon from the Cold War and modern times. Work on this weapon began in the 1960s, and it entered service with the British Army at the beginning of the next decade. Initially, two entities were responsible for its development and subsequent production: Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment (abbreviated: RARDE) and Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield (abbreviated: RSAF). BAE Systems is currently responsible for production and development. The total mass of the cannon is 110 kilograms and its length is 3.15 meters, with the barrel length being 2.44 meters. The initial velocity of the projectile fired from this cannon, when firing APDS ammunition, reaches 1175 m / s. The range of an effective shot at a land target is approx. 2000 meters. The presented weapon was developed as a new basic armament for light British Army vehicles such as the FV721 Fox, FV107 Scimitar or FV510 Warrior. It is worth adding that the weapon is de facto manually loaded with "magazines" of three rounds each, which limits its actual rate of fire. The weapon is designed to fight the manpower of the enemy and his lightly armored vehicles.
