The 105mm L / 52 is a Japanese 105mm tank gun from the Cold War and modern times. Currently, it is the main armament of the Type 16 MCV. Japan Steel Works is responsible for its development and production. In its essence, it is a far-reaching development of the British Royal Ordonance L7 gun of the same caliber, which is licensed in Japan. Compared to its prototype, the gun has a barrel with a length of 52 calibers (thus measures 546 centimeters), as well as a different thermal shield and a completely different barrel smoke extraction system. It also features a unique muzzle brake, formed by nine rows of holes drilled in a spiral in the barrel tube. The cannon is loaded manually and can fire projectiles of such types as, for example: APDS, HESH or APFSDS. In the Type 16 MCV, it works with a fire control system very similar to that of the Type 10.
