The Lycoming AGT1500C (now: Honeywell AGT-1500) is an American-made gas turbine capable of generating 1500 hp at 3000 rpm. The manufacturer's website states that the turbine is 168.9 cm long and 80.8 cm high. The turbine was developed at the Lycoming Turbine Engine Division facilities and was produced by a facility in Stratford, Connecticut. In 1995, production was moved to the city of Anniston, Alabama. The Lycoming AGT1500C was de facto primarily developed as the base unit for the M1 MBT and M1A1 Abrams, and has been in service since the early 1980s. The turbine is multi-fuel, it also has a high level of generated maximum power. It is relatively quiet during operation and is also considered relatively reliable. Its considerable disadvantages - compared to diesel engines - include very high fuel consumption, high operating temperature, as well as susceptibility to ignition in the event of a hit.
