MCTAGS Turret (Marine Corps Transparent Armored Gun Shield) is an armored turret dedicated especially to light armored vehicles from modern times. The contract for its development was signed in 2005, and its main recipient is the American Marine Corps. The weight of the disc itself is about 205 kg, while the weight of the rotation mechanism is 82 kg. MCTAGS Turret was developed by the defense concern BAE Systems based on the experience gained by American troops during the initial period of fighting in Afghanistan (since 2001) and in Iraq (since 2003). The main purpose of creating the presented turret was to increase the survivability of shooters using machine guns on vehicles such as the M 1125 Hummer. On the one hand, efforts were made to provide them with ballistic protection against small arms or fragments, but also to maintain the best possible visibility. These assumptions have been met to a large extent. The MCTAGS turret and its derivative variants were or are mounted on such vehicles as, for example, the HMMWV, MRAP or M113 family of vehicles.
