Elbe Highway is a modern ship designed for transporting cars (so-called car carrier). The launch of the vessel took place in July 2005. The ship is 148 meters long and 25 meters wide. The maximum load capacity is 7,800 tons and the maximum speed is 19 knots. The crew of this large ship is only 23-27 people!
Elbe Highway was designed and built at Gdynia Shipyard SA for the shipping company Ray Car Carriers, which is based on the Isle of Man, but the vessel sailed under the flag of the Bahamas. The unit is able to transport about 2,100 passenger cars at a time, and thanks to the special structure of the hull and plating, it is able to sail on icy waters. The Elbe Highway has been designed for cruises mainly in the waters of the Baltic and North Seas, but the ship can also make cruises across the Atlantic. Interestingly, the unit has very extensive ventilation and fire protection systems. It is also worth noting that the Elbe Highway was the first type 8245 unit put into service.
