The Wright R-2600 Cyclone was an American interwar and WWII aero engine manufactured by Wright Aeronautical. It was first tested in 1935. The engine - in the R-2600-C14BB version - weighed 930 kilograms with a displacement of 42.7 liters. It is estimated that a total of over 50,000 units of this aircraft engine were produced! Engines of this type were produced at plants in Paterson (New Jersey) and Cincinnati (Ohio). The Wright R-2600 Cyclone engine is a far-reaching development of the previous Wright power unit, the R-1820 Cyclone. Compared to its predecessor, it differed primarily in the number of cylinders (14 versus 9), displacement, but also the generated maximum power. It is worth noting that from the moment of entering mass production, the Wright R-2600 Cyclone engine has been improved. Its first version (R-2600-1) generated power of 1600 hp, while the R-2600-22 version was released a few years later as much as 1900 hp. The Junkers Wright R-2600 engine was used as a power unit for several important American aircraft during the Second World War. It powered such machines as: A-20 Havoc, B-25 Mitchell or SB2C Helldiver.
