Garrett TPE331 or Honeywell TPE331 is an aviation turboprop engine from the Cold War period and modern times of American production. The first successful engine start-up took place in 1960 and serial production started shortly after and is still ongoing. Over 13,500 engines of this type have been produced so far. In the TPE-331-43A version, the engine measures 120 cm in length with a diameter of 53 centimeters. The weight of the "dry" engine is only 152 kilograms. The maximum power generated by the TPE-331-43A version reaches 575 HP. The TPE-331 engine was initially developed by Garrett Airesearch, and since 1999, Honeywell Aerospace has been responsible for its production. Initially, the engine was developed strictly for military purposes, as a power unit for small airplanes and helicopters, but relatively quickly the engine began to be offered - with considerable success - on the civil aviation market. It was used as a power unit in such aircraft as: BAE Jetstream 31/32, Dornier Do 228, HAL HTT-40 or Mitsubishi MU-2.
