The Packard V-1650 was a US 12-cylinder liquid-cooled aircraft engine of the Second World War. The engine was 225.3 cm long, 78.1 cm wide and 101.6 cm high. Its displacement was 27.04 liters, and the weight of the dry engine did not exceed 746 kilograms. The maximum power generated by this engine reached 1,400 hp.

The Packard V-1650 was in fact a license version of the very successful British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, produced by the American company Packard Motor Car Company. The production of this engine was initiated by the British side, whose British aviation industry was developing very well since 1939, but despite the construction of new factories, it still produced too little propulsion units. Hence, in 1940, and thus before the US joined the Second World War, an agreement was concluded between the British side and Packard for the production of a license version of the Merlin engine. The first engine left the production lines of the aforementioned plants in August 1941. Production for domestic needs - American, also started relatively quickly. The Packard V-1650 engine (in various versions) was used as a power unit in such aircraft as the Curtiss P-40F, Spitfire Mk. XVI or early P-51D Mustangs.
