STS Pogoria is a contemporary, Polish sailing vessel of the bark type. The keel was laid under the vessel in 1979, and the vessel was launched in 1980. The total length of the vessel is 46.8 meters with a width of 8 meters. The sail area is 909 m2, and the additional drive is a Volvo Pensta engine with a capacity of 280 HP.
STS Pogoria was designed by the famous Polish builder of tall ships - Eng. Zygmunt Choreñ, and the Gdañsk Shipyard was responsible for its construction. The unit was commissioned by ... Polish Television, for the needs of the Brotherhood of the Iron Shekel, an organization that cares about the maritime education of young people. The STS Pogoria quickly turned out to be a very successful vessel, with good sea bravery, high performance, which on many levels surpassed its counterparts - be it from the bloc of socialist countries or from Western European countries. In the years 1980-1981, the unit also made a very risky cruise to the Polish research base in Antarctica. STS Pogoria was also a key unit of the so-called Sailing Schools. The individual is still in active service.
