ChTZ S-65 Staliniec is a Soviet tractor intended for both civilian use and used by the military in the interwar period and World War II. It was developed in the mid-1930s and serial production continued in 1937-1941. The vehicle was powered by a single M-17 diesel engine up to 72hp.
The first work on the ChTZ S-65 took place in 1932 at the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant. The new vehicle was developed on the basis of the previous tractor produced at these plants, the S-60. The S-65 tractor weighed 11 tons and was intended for heavy field work, and thus had a considerable towing capacity. However, it had a very low top speed, and its range was around 80-100 kilometers. Despite these shortcomings, it was also used by the Red Army to tow heavy and very heavy artillery, such as the 203 mm B-4 howitzer. However, a good number of ChTZ S-65 tractors fell into German hands during the initial period of Operation Barbarossa in 1941.
