Although many elements of the D-10 gun were used in its construction, several important modifications were made, the key of which was the use of a "smooth" barrel without rifling, which was a great novelty then (at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s). The sub-caliber ammunition with a throwing sabot was also used on a large scale, which further improved the parameters of this gun. It is assumed that the U-5TS can penetrate a 300 mm thick steel armor plate from 1000 meters. Thus, it could easily destroy any NATO tank at this distance until the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, when the Leopard 2 or M1 Abrams vehicles were added to the line!
