The Battle of Beresteczek was fought on June 28-30, 1651 in today's Ukraine, and in the following days (until July 7-10), fights for the Cossack camp were fought. In this battle, the Polish army led by King Jan Kazimierz and the Cossack-Tatar army led by Bohdan Chmielnicki and Islam Giray stood on one side. It is estimated that the Polish-Lithuanian side had about 65-70 thousand. people, of which approx. 35-40 thousand. it's a common move. On the other hand, the Cossack-Tatar troops fought about 100,000. people. In the first two days of the battle (June 28-29), its outcome was not a foregone conclusion, and the scales tilted from side to side. The breakthrough came on June 30, when the Polish-Lithuanian side used - at the express order of the king - a completely new formation (sometimes called "granite"), in which the main role was played by artillery and infantry armed with firearms, placed in the center of the formation, and cavalry was deployed on the wings. The Tatars fled the battlefield, and the Cossacks locked themselves in their camp, which was captured on July 7. After capturing the rolling stock, the Polish-Lithuanian army began a terrible slaughter of Cossacks, in which perhaps several thousand people lost their lives. It is assumed that over the course of the entire battle, the Cossack-Tatar side lost from 30,000 to 40,000. people. It is quite commonly accepted that the Battle of Beresteczka was one of the greatest battles of 17th-century Europe.
