The SMS Oldenburg was a German armored ship, sometimes classified as an armored corvette or frigate, from the late 19th century. The keel for this vessel was laid in 1883, the launch took place in 1884, and entry into service in the Kaiserliche Marine - in 1886. The length of the ship was 79.8 meters, with a maximum width of 18 meters. Full displacement reached about 5,700 tons, and maximum speed - to about 14 knots. The deck armament, at the time of launch, consisted of 8 240 mm guns, 4 150 mm guns, 2 88 mm guns and 4 torpedo tubes.
SMS Oldenburg was built at the AG Vulcan shipyard in Szczecin. Initially, it was supposed to be the fifth unit of the Sachsen class, but due to budget constraints, as well as due to the bad experience of operating previous units of this class, the SMS Oldenburg was completely redesigned and was in fact a separate, stand-alone type. First of all, it was shorter than the Sachsen-class ships, but had much stronger main and auxiliary artillery armaments. Also, the armor of the unit has changed quite clearly in favor. The top speed was also slightly increased. Finally, a rather unusual unit was created, which, however, had a limited combat capability. SMS Oldenburg did not take part in World War I - it was withdrawn from active service in 1912.
