Eduard 8484 SSW D.III Weekend Edition

The Siemens-Schuckert D.III (another designation: SSW D.III) was a German fighter plane in a biplane, wooden structure, with a fixed undercarriage from the First World War. The drive was provided by a single 160 HP Siemens-Halske Hs III engine. The flight of the prototype took place in 1917 and in the same year mass production began, which led to the creation of 80 examples of this aircraft. The deck armament consisted of two 7.92 mm LMG 08/15 machine guns.

Siemens-Schuckert D.III was created as a development of another fighter of these aviation plants: the prototype D.IIc. Assessment of the SSW D.III fighter, because on the one hand it had very big problems with cooling the engine, which often caused its rapid overheating and effectively limited its life, on the other hand, the fighter had very good performance, especially great - for the realities of I world war - climb speed. The first Siemens-Schuckert D.III fighters went to line units at the turn of 1917 and 1918 and served primarily on the Western Front.
