Sapporo Tokei-dai is a historic clock tower, situated on a public building, located in the city of Sapporo, on the island of Hokkaido in northern Japan. The facility was erected at the end of the 19th century, in 1878 to be precise, as one of the buildings of the then Agricultural Academy (now: Hokkaido University). Three years later (1881), the clock was installed on the tower, and the work related to its production and assembly was commissioned to the American company E. Howard Company. The building is considered one of the oldest in the short, official history of Sapporo and is one of the few original Western-style buildings that have survived to our times in the city. It is a huge tourist attraction and a kind of Sapporo showcase recognizable throughout Japan. Currently, the building houses a museum of the city's history, and occasionally becomes a venue for musical performances.
