The Shafrir-2 is an air-to-air guided missile of the Israeli Cold War period. The projectile is 250 cm long with a span of 55 cm and a diameter of 15 centimeters. Its total weight is 93 kg, with the maximum weight of the warhead being 11 kg. It is assumed that the effective range of the projectile did not exceed 5-7 kilometers. The Shafrir-2 missile was developed in the early 1970s by an Israeli armaments concern, now known as Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Limited (RAFAEL for short) commissioned by the Israeli Air Force. The presented missile was a far-reaching modification of the Shafrir-1 missile, although on the outside it differed only slightly from it. However, it was much heavier than it and had a slightly larger diameter. At the same time, however, maneuverability after firing was improved, as well as reliability. Your baptism of fire on a large scale The Shafrir-2 passed through the Yom-Kippur war in 1973, where 89 enemy machines were (probably or for sure) shot down. It is worth adding that during the entire service of the Shafrir-2 missile in the Israeli Air Force, about 105 enemy machines were shot down with it. The missile could be suspended under machines such as Mirage III C, Mirage III CJ or Dassault Super Mystere.
