The SG-122 was a Soviet self-propelled armored gun from the Second World War. The first prototypes of this vehicle were created in 1942 - at the turn of 1942 and 1943, a very short series production began, which led to the creation of 10 to 21 vehicles of this type. Data in this matter are not precise and depend on the sources. The drive was provided by a single engine Maybach HL 120 TRM with a power of 300 hp. The cart was 6.1 meters long and 3 meters wide. The armament consisted of the 122 mm M-30 howitzer.
The SG-122 was developed on the basis of the experience gained during the initial period of the war with Germany, which clearly demonstrated the necessity for the Red Army to have real self-propelled artillery. In order to shorten the research and development work, the vehicle was developed on the chassis of the captured Panzer III tanks and the StuG III self-propelled guns. The suspension and power units of these vehicles were also preserved. However, changes were made to the front and middle parts of the fuselage, where an armored casemate for the main armament was installed. The SG-122 vehicles, however, took a very limited part in the fighting and were quickly replaced by the SU-122 of fully domestic production. Probably after being withdrawn from the line, they were used for training tasks.
