Trumpeter 09584 Soviet SMK Heavy Tank

The SMK is a Soviet prototype multi-turret heavy tank from the interwar period and World War II. The only prototype of this car was created in 1939 - it never entered mass production. The combat weight of the vehicle was approximately 55 tons. It was armed with a single 76.2mm L-11 cannon, a 45mm cannon, and four 7.62mm machine guns. The drive was provided by a single V AM-34 engine with a capacity of 850 HP.

The SMK was designed as a new heavy tank of the Red Army, intended to replace the T-35 vehicles in this role, but duplicating their basic design concept, i.e. the use of more than one turret with armament. In the case of SMK, these were finally two towers placed in the front and in the center of the vehicle. The vehicle also had a relatively thick armor of up to 75 mm. The T-35 tank was intensively adapted on the proving grounds, and its combat use took place in December 1939 during the Winter War with Finland. However, the only copy of the SMK was quickly eliminated from the fight by the Finns and left behind by its own crew. It was towed by the Red Army after the end of hostilities (in February 1940), but the car lost the competition with the KW-1.
