Taczanka is a horse-drawn cart most often equipped with a heavy machine gun. Most often, the machine gun was placed at the back of the wheelbarrow, which allowed for direct fire from the harness. Less frequently - machine guns were dismantled and placed at the shooting position. Most often the wheelbarrows were pulled by two or four horses. It is fairly commonly assumed that the barrows were used for the first time during the Russian Civil War in Bolshevik troops in early 1918. At that time, they were assigned primarily to cavalry units, thanks to which they gained highly mobile and effective fire support. They were also used on a large scale by Budyonny's 1st Cavalry Army during the Polish-Bolshevik war (1919-1921). It is worth adding that after 1921 the wheelbarrow was also used in the Polish Army with various types of rifles. In 1929, our armed forces were equipped with a wheelbarrow wz.28, and later - a wheelbarrow wz.36 with a machine gun wz. 30.
