This monograph mainly describes the design of the howitzer, rather than the organisation of the basic units using the 10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer and the combat use of howitzers during the war, so I will omit consideration of the organisation of the German artillery, its composition and tasks performed. These issues will only be touched upon very marginally, when discussing the organisational structure of the 105 mm howitzer units, during the 1939 September campaign.
