USS Cochrane (DDG-21) was an American missile destroyer, the keel of which was laid in 1961, the launch took place in 1962, and entry into service with the US Navy was in 1964. The total length of the ship was 133 meters and a width of 14 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 4,550 tons, and speed - up to 33 knots. The destroyer's armament included: two 127 mm guns, a single launcher for the Tartar missiles, and a single ASROC rocket launcher. The destroyer was not adapted to the homing of on-board helicopters.

USS Cochrane (DDG-21) was one of 29 destroyers belonging to the Charles F. Adams class. Units of this class were based on the design of the Forrest Sherman class destroyers, but from the beginning it was assumed that their main armament would be missile-based. Compared to their predecessors, they received a slightly longer hull and reinforced anti-aircraft and anti-submarine armaments (anti-submarine warfare). When they entered service (in the years 1958-1967), they had relatively modern electronic equipment. One of the destroyers of this class was the USS Czochrane, which was built at the Puget Sound Bridge and Dredging Company in Seattle, Washington. In 1975, the unit took part in Operation Frequent Wind, which involved the evacuation of American civilian personnel and some Vietnamese civilians from Saigon at the very end of the Vietnam War. USS Czochrane was decommissioned in 1990 and sold for scrap two years later.
