USS Gearing (DD-710 ) was an American destroyer from World War II and the Cold War. The keel for this unit was laid in 1944, and the launch took place in February 1945. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 119.1 meters and a width of 12.2 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 3,500 tons, and the maximum speed was approx. 37 knots. The armament at the time of the launch consisted of: six 127 mm guns, 12 40 mm cannons and 11 20 mm anti-aircraft cannons.

USS Gearing (DD-710 ) was the lead ship of the destroyer class of the same name. Units of this type were designed in connection with the pursuit of the US Navy to obtain units with a greater range and significantly improved capabilities to counter air targets in relation to the Allen M. Sumner class units. Compared to their predecessors, they were mainly lengthened amidships. After the end of World War II, many Gearing-class destroyers remained in service and were modernized. One of the destroyers of this class was just USS Gearing, which was built at the Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Kearny, NJ. The unit did not take an active part in World War II. In 1947, it was directed to the Mediterranean Sea, where it called at ports in France, Algeria and Italy. Interestingly, the destroyer did not take an active part in the Korean War, but was modernized in 1961-1962. In 1962, the ship took part in the naval blockade of Cuba, and in the years 1963-1964 it underwent another modernization under the FRAM I program, during which its ZOP (anti-submarine) capabilities were significantly increased at the expense of anti-aircraft capabilities. USS Gearing was decommissioned in 1973 and sold for scrap a year later.
