The USS Arizona Memorial is a memorial erected in Pearl Harbor Bay in Honolulu, Hawaii, to commemorate the death of 1,102 American sailors on board the USS Arizona (BB-39) battleship in the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941 that began II world war in the pacific. This unusual monument was erected in 1962 and its creator was Alfred Preis and it consists of three parts: the entrance, the assembly place and the temple. The monument was erected exactly above the wreckage of the sunken battleship. It also has a special opening through which the sunken USS Arizona decks can be seen. It is also through this opening that visitors can throw flowers in honor of the fallen. Inside the temple, however, there is a marble wall with the names and surnames of the fallen sailors on December 7, 1941. It is estimated that the USS Arizona Memorial receives approximately one million visitors annually. It is worth adding that every president of the USA after 1962 visited this monument at least once. The Japanese emperors: Hirohito and Akihito also visited this place.
