USS Cromwell (DE-1014) was an American escort destroyer, the keel of which was laid in March 1953, launched in June 1954, and commissioned by the US Navy later that same year. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 95.9 m, width 11.2 m, with a full displacement of about 1,900 tons. The maximum speed was 27-28 knots. The armament of the unit at the time of launching consisted of: 4 76 mm guns, a single SQUID depth bomb thrower and 6 324 mm torpedo tubes.

USS Cromwell (DE-1014) was one of the Dealey-class escort destroyers. The ships of this type were the first ships of this class built for the US Navy after the end of World War II. Compared to their counterparts from the declining period of this armed conflict, they were quite clearly larger, had slightly better performance, they also received relatively strong artillery - for this type of ship - and strong ZOP (anti-submarine) armament. USS Cromwell (DE-1014) honored its name in memory of Captain John Cromwell, who died in World War II, and was awarded the Medal of Honor. During its service, the unit took part in numerous exercises of NATO naval forces, operating especially in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean basin. The unit was decommissioned in the US Navy in 1972 and was originally supposed to be handed over to the New Zealand Navy, but was finally sold for scrap in 1973.
