Rolls-Royce Turbomeca RTM322 is a turboshaft engine from the Cold War period and modern times of British-French production. The first successful engine start-up took place in 1984, and serial production started in the early 1990s. In the RTM322-01 / 1 version, the motor measures approx. 118 cm in length with a maximum diameter of approx. 71 cm. The weight of the power unit is 255 kilograms. The maximum power generated by the RTM322-01 / 1 version reached 2,100 hp. The engine was originally developed by a consortium of Rolls-Royce and Turbomeca as a power unit for the AH-64 Apache and Sikorsky Blackhawk helicopters. However, major contractors opted for domestically produced engines, such as the General Electric T700 for the Apache helicopter. Despite the failure on the American market, both companies decided to further develop the power unit. Ultimately, Rolls-Royce Turbomeca RTM322 turned out to be one of the most frequently used drive units for Agusta-Westland AW.101 machines and it played such a role in the Merlin MH.1 version (dedicated to the Royal Navy) and in the case of nearly 80% of NH Industries NH90 machines.
